Undergrounding Powerlines in Two Wells Main Street

We are working with SA Power Networks to underground powerlines along the Main Street in Two Wells (Old Pt Wakefield Road), as part of our Main Street project to enhance our vibrant community.

Construction includes undergrounding existing overhead powerlines, removal of the existing stobie poles and the installation of new LED street lighting.

The project will happen in two stages:

  • Stage 1A covers the section of road from Gawler Road to the Post Office
  • Stage 1B covers the section of road from the Post Office to 200 metres south of Drew Street

We originally advised scheduled completion date of July 2024. Due to reasons outside of our control, there have been construction delays. Updates will be published to our website as they are available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Traffic safety management measures will be implemented along Old Port Wakefield Road to ensure the safety of construction workers and the community. Access to businesses will be maintained using road plates and stop/go traffic management. Speed restrictions and parking limitations will also be in effect in the vicinity of the works.

There may be intermittent restrictions on driveway access throughout. SA Power Networks crews and traffic management team will work closely with those affected to minimise any inconvenience.

Some private electricity connections may need to be altered as part of the project. There is no cost to residents for this work, and you will be notified in advance if this will affect you and your property.

Some residents will experience power outages during this work. If your property will be affected, SA Power Networks will send SMS/emails to subscribed customers, typically two weeks before the planned outage. They send cards to those not subscribed, however there may be delays with the postal service.

There may be some noise, dust and vibration associated with the work from excavation equipment and other vehicles, however SA Power Networks crews will reduce disruption as much as possible.

The total cost is estimated to be around $3.8m. PLEC is funding approximately $2.4m of the project. Details costs throughout the project will be available in our Annual Business Plans, Infrastructure Asset Management Plans, and Long Term Financial Plans.

PLEC, or the Power Line Environment Committee, provides funding to partners with councils and provides funding to underground power (moving overhead powerlines, stobie poles, and other associated infrastructure underground) in high traffic, ceremonial or gateway roads, or roads with tourism and heritage importance.
