Preparing for growth

Adelaide Plains' businesses, producers, townships and coast are set to experience unprecedented growth and change over the coming decade. Our population is growing at a faster average annual rate than Greater Adelaide and business investment is growing and diversifying.

Some 400 new residents are anticipated every year over the next 20 years. Our education sector is growing. Investment from developers and businesses will also increase following the Two Wells Town Centre.

Food and primary industries, a long term backbone of the Adelaide Plains, will continue in importance supplying local, national and international markets. Increasing technology, value adding and creating new resources from bi-products are emerging, increasing farm and horticultural career opportunities for more local residents.

Tourism presents more job opportunities into the future in nature, culture, coast, farm, and adventure based tourism, like the Mallala Raceway and skydiving.

The opportunities are clear. Growth will increase spending and support more commercial, retail and employment floor space. Over time we can expect to see more choice in our local housing and jobs, and investment in health and medical services. These are important as the 2022 Community Survey told us more local jobs, township rejuvenation and health services are sought.

Growth will add to the vibrancy of our townships and enable working, living, and playing locally.

We are taking a long-term approach to building our region's economic and tourism advantage. We understand the challenges, opportunities and key areas and are committed to working with our community and partners to deliver short-term opportunities while building our long-term capability for economic and tourism development.
