Adelaide Plains Council’s vision for the future

Published 16th December 2024

‘A thriving proactive community with an enviable lifestyle, emerging economy and remarkable landscapes’ is the vision Adelaide Plains Council will work to achieve over the next four years.

Adopted at the 25 November 2024 meeting, the Strategic Plan 2025–2028 describes Council’s goals for the region’s future and strategies to achieve this.

A key message Council heard through engagement and conversation with its community was that residents want to live, work and play locally in a resilient community where people feel safe.

An ongoing challenge for Council is planning for, and delivering, a variety of services and infrastructure across three towns, 11 settlements and rural areas experiencing business and population growth whilst managing the basics — roads, waste management and maintenance.

Through proactive leadership and collaboration, Council plans to enable the delivery of significant infrastructure to enhance the region’s liveability, and economic and environmental outcomes. Council will continue to operate with honesty and integrity and be accountable for the decisions it makes.

This Strategic Plan builds on the momentum of the previous four-year plan by continuing to focus on the key themes of an enviable lifestyle, emerging economy, remarkable landscape and proactive leadership, and gives directions and targets for what it wants to achieve for the community.

Key strategies to achieve this vision include:

  • Investigating the need and timing of long term ongoing growth and existing facilities.
  • Engaging with the State Government to ensure infrastructure requirements keep pace with the housing and business growth the region is experiencing.
  • Continuing to build strong foundations for community services now and into the future.

Council’s connection and collaboration with residents, community organisations, local businesses and government is important. The strategic plan reflects the collaborative role everyone plays in developing and preparing the region for the future.

The plan was refined following valuable feedback and conversations with the community, and updated to ensure it had a clear focus on strategic actions that will be used to inform operations over the next four years, such as the future business and infrastructure management plans.
