Council Meetings

One of the main roles of a Council Member is to make decisions on behalf of the community. Council meetings are where these decisions are made.

As Council Members cannot make decisions outside of a Council meeting, resolutions are made that that give direction and instructions to the Chief Executive Officer. The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for implementing resolutions and the day-to-day operations of Council.

How meetings work

Anyone can attend our council meetings to observe in person, or watch them live on our YouTube channel. You do not need to register to attend in advance.

Meetings are run in accordance with:

Code of Practice – Meeting Procedures

Ordinary meetings

In 2024, ordinary council meetings are held monthly in the Mallala Council Chamber at 5:30pm.

Special meetings

Special meetings may be called at any time by the Mayor, or a minimum of 3 Council Members. When a special meeting is called, the CEO will display a notice on this page.

Attending in person

Our public gallery at our Mallala Council Chamber can seat approximately 28 people. Once this limit is reached, the building will be closed to the community. The public gallery is visible in video recordings. Please do not attend council meetings if you are unwell or have any cold or flu symptoms.

Watch online

Shortly before an ordinary or special council meeting is scheduled to begin, a video link will display on our YouTube channel.

Recordings of meetings

When video recordings are available, they are listed underneath the meeting date on our Council Meetings page.

Agendas & minutes

Agendas are the list of topics (referred to as items) that will be discussed at a meeting. We usually publish them together with the reports that contain background information on each topic for Council Members (excluding confidential items). Agendas for ordinary council meetings are published 3 clear days before the meeting. Agendas for special council meetings are published as soon as possible after notice of the meeting.

Minutes are a record of a meeting. We publish draft minutes within 5 days after a meeting. The minutes are adopted at the next ordinary council meeting and published in replacement of the draft minutes.
