Council to fly the Rainbow Flag this November

Published 6th November 2024

In a simple gesture of support for the LGBTQIA+ community, Adelaide Plains Council will again fly the Rainbow Flag throughout November.

This initiative aims to celebrate diversity and promote inclusivity within our townships and across our community.

By proudly displaying this flag, Adelaide Plains Council seeks to raise awareness about the ongoing struggles faced by individuals in our community, and to encourage dialogue and understanding among all residents.

Acting Mayor Marcus Strudwicke, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative stating, “This decision reflects the Council’s dedication to creating a welcoming environment for everyone in our district. Flying the Rainbow flag is not just a symbol; it’s a message of solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ community. We stand united in our belief that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.”

Raising the Rainbow flag supports Adelaide’s Feast LGBTQIA+ Arts and Cultural Festival 2024, which will run from the 9th to the 24th of November and will provide Adelaide with a range of events showcasing the LGBTQIA+ community. From cabaret and drag, music, and parties to literature, comedy, workshops and more, there is much to enjoy in this celebration of Adelaide’s queer community.

The Council believes that education and awareness are key to dismantling prejudice and fostering a more inclusive society for everyone, and encourages residents to participate in this year’s celebration of diversity and to help promote a culture of acceptance throughout our close-knit communities.
