Two Wells roundabout completed

Published 8th April 2025
The final stage of the Two Wells roundabout, located at the intersection of Mallala, Old Port Wakefield and Meaney Roads, has been completed.

The roundabout ensures a safer crossing for all road users, residents and school students, with the final construction providing a suitable roundabout for freight vehicles. All will be relieved to get back to smooth traffic flows – school drop offs at Xavier College, residents and trade workers in Liberty, and heavy vehicles travelling the north south Mallala Road corridor.

Two Wells also benefits from the additional sealing of Windmill Road, which was reshaped and spray sealed in preparation for the stage two detour. Following conversation with some affected residents about dust and mud from an earlier detour, Council successfully negotiated with the construction company to fund, reshape and spray seal Windmill Road.

Construction of the roundabout took place over two stages, project managed by Hickinbotham. Stage one, in 2023, was a temporary smaller roundabout to provide safer pedestrian and traffic management as an interim solution. The Department for Infrastructure and Transport undertook further planning and land acquisition for the final stage two – a permanent roundabout suitable for both residential traffic, pedestrians and heavy freight up to A-double or B-triple. Stage two construction began in January 2025 and traffic restrictions were lifted and fully opened in early April.

Roundabouts are one of the safest and easiest traffic management structures that require motorists to just follow the simplest of road rules.

Council appreciates the community’s continual support and patience throughout the construction, and thanks the Federal Government for the funding received to deliver the roundabout.
