Following increasing demand for council-managed facilities available for community use, the building at 65 Old Port Wakefield Road in Two Wells was identified as an interim option to address this gap.
Originally built in the 1950s as a fire station for the Two Wells CFS, it has been used by different community groups over the years, including as a youth space and, most recently, was the home of the former Two Wells RSL sub-branch.
Currently in Two Wells, the only Council-managed indoor facilities that are able to be booked for community use are the reading room at the Two Wells library and the Two Wells Council Chamber.
Located in the main street of Two Wells, next door to the library, open spaces and other facilities, the currently unused building will soon see new life.
Council has committed $25,000 towards basic renovations to ensure the building is safe for use.
Local volunteers have generously committed time, and funds, towards additional improvements, including finishing and painting the walls and ceiling, and laying carpet tiles.
The Two Wells Scouts will have access to the building on Monday and Friday evenings. Council is continuing to plan for wider community bookings.
